Getting Started
Lake lot with fall foliage |
In addition to our regular blog on
the Diamondhead Resort Community website, we’re beginning a new blog with
photos on the construction of our house as it goes up in Diamondhead. My
husband and I moved to Hot Springs in June of 2013 after purchasing a lot on
Lake Catherine in Diamondhead. It’s taken a while to get our plans ready and to
consider all the many choices we wanted to make in building our new home. Extremely
important to us was building a high energy efficiency home along with all the
perfect building materials to give us a beautiful, comfortable place to live,
work and play.

We had to do some homework on
understanding what products were available in constructing a high energy
efficient home that was affordable and that would give us the greatest amount
of comfort. Many builders and realtors throw around the words energy efficient,
but we realized making sense of it all was totally up to us. After talking with
several builders we decided Blue Moon Bay Builders gave us the most
information, knew what they were talking about and helped us make all our
decisions on energy efficiency a reality.
For us, a high energy efficient home
includes several components: a 21-seer Infinity heat and air system, which
includes a totally computer-controlled variable speed compressor, compressor
fan and blower; hybrid water heater using less energy to heat water; triple-pane
windows for more insulation and noise reduction; energy trusses, which allow
for the same amount of insulation across the entire attic; cellulose
insulation, which is a better insulator than fiberglass; LED lighting to save
energy and for cooler lighting; and caulking all wood-to-wood joints to prevent
even the smallest air leaks.
As we build and make construction
decisions, we’re excited about sharing what we've learned with all those
considering building a new home. We’ve bought three existing homes in the past,
but this is our first home to build From the Ground Up. I hope you’ll join us
during construction and share in our journey. For more information call 501.520.9201 or 501.262.9310.
